Alumni Perspectives: Churchill's Legacy

On February 3, 2022, Open Discourse Coalition sponsored a panel discussion on the legacy of Winston Churchill featuring:

Dr. Larry Arnn - president of Hillsdale College and editor of Churchill's official biography
Dr. Sean McMeekin - professor at Bard College and author of Stalin's War.
Dr. Madhusree Mukerjee, author of Churchill's Secret War

Below, two alumni share their feedback:

I appreciated the diverse perspectives and spirited debate at the panel discussion on Churchill's legacy. So intriguing and energizing to hear and then to ponder. If only all classes and lectures could be taught in this fashion to allow for maximum learning for all involved, just imagine where this could lead!

Dr. McMeekin seemed to naturally slide into the role of moderator and handled the debate with a balanced approach - probing when a statement needed more clarification and following up with comments and questions that allowed for the panelists to elaborate. All in all, it was a great event, and I look forward to the next one!

Yet another thoughtful, well balanced discussion of a world leader who had his hands on so many of the events which shaped the modern world. It is great to see Bucknell presenting speakers, with differing views, who cause us to think—the ultimate purpose of a university!
